You Should Worry if Any of These 3 Things Happen in Your Mouth

what do I do if I suddenly feel a loose tooth? San Antonio

The state of your oral health is closely related to your overall health, which is just one of the reasons why daily brushing and flossing is so important. At William J. Stewart Jr. DDS in San Antonio we’re using this post to discuss three common issues that you should never ignore.

Dry mouth. Everyone has an unusually dry mouth from time to time, but it some cases it can be persistent. Dry mouth is a commmon side effect of certain medications, such as cold medicine. It could also be a sign of a more serious condition.

A good flow of saliva is important to dental health. It has a cleansing effect, and without it you become more susceptible to tooth decay and other issues. If you always seem to have a dry mouth you should give us a call and let us know.

Missing teeth. One or more missing teeth should never be ignored or taken for granted. A gap in your mouth from a missing tooth makes it harder to speak and eat, for one thing. More seriously, it can lead to bone loss in your jaw. The teeth surrounding the gap may also begin to shift in place, affecting your bite.

If you are missing teeth, your options include a dental bridge or a dental implant. An implant can support an artificial tooth, and several can support a dental arch.

Gum disease. Gum disease is usually brought on by poor dental hygiene, and you can avoid it entirely with regular brushing and flossing. One of the scary things about it is that in its earliest stages there are no symptoms at all. The early stage is called gingivitis, and it can progress into a more serious condition called periodontitis.
